Business Days Calculator

A business day is any day of the week that is not a weekend. In most Western countries, this means Monday through Friday. A standard business week has 5 business days. Business days typically exclude public holidays as well, though this varies by country, industry, and contract. For purely weekend-based calculations (no holidays), this calculator gives exact results. For deadline calculations that include specific public holidays, you may need to add those manually.

A typical month has 20–23 business days, depending on how many weekdays fall in the month. Months with 28–31 calendar days contain roughly 20 working days on average. Specifically: months with 28 days can have 20 weekdays; 30 days = 21–22 weekdays; 31 days = 21–23 weekdays. February typically has 20 business days; months starting on different days of the week shift the count slightly. Use the "Count Between" mode to find the exact number for any specific month.

Enter today's date in the Start Date field, set the operation to "Add," enter 10 in the business days field, and click Calculate. The result will show the exact calendar date 10 working days from today, skipping weekends automatically. 10 business days is typically two full calendar weeks. If today is Monday, 10 business days later is the Monday of the following week — or the Friday of the second following week if you start on a Friday.

This calculator skips weekends only — it does not automatically exclude public holidays, because holidays vary significantly by country, region, and industry. To account for a public holiday, simply add 1 extra business day to your calculation for each holiday that falls within the period. For legally critical deadlines involving specific holidays, manually verify which days fall within your period and adjust accordingly.

Use the custom work week selector — click the days to toggle them on or off. For Middle Eastern countries (Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar): set Sun–Thu as working days and deselect Mon–Fri weekends. For Israel: Sun–Thu work week with Fri–Sat weekend. For most Western countries: the default Mon–Fri. For retail or service businesses that work Saturdays: add Saturday to the work week. In practice, "business days" and "working days" mean the same thing in most contexts — Monday through Friday, excluding weekends. However, "working days" sometimes has a broader meaning that includes the specific hours or shifts an organization operates, which could include Saturday shifts for some industries. In legal and financial contexts, "business days" is the more precise term and almost universally means Mon–Fri. When in doubt about what a specific contract or regulation means, consult the relevant legal or regulatory guidance.

The convention varies by context: most financial and legal systems start counting from the day after the event (the start date is day 0, and counting begins on day 1). So "deliver within 5 business days of Monday" means delivery by the following Monday (counting Tue=1, Wed=2, Thu=3, Fri=4, Mon=5). This calculator uses the same convention — the start date is not counted, and business days begin from the next working day. Always verify the exact convention for legally binding deadlines.

A standard year (365 days) has approximately 260–262 business days (Mon–Fri only), before deducting public holidays. A leap year has 261–262. The exact count depends on which day January 1 falls — if it's a weekday, you get more weekdays early in the year. After subtracting typical public holidays (8–12 in most countries), most employees have around 248–252 working days per year. Use the Count Between mode with Jan 1 and Dec 31 for the exact number in any specific year.

T+2 is a standard settlement convention meaning a trade settles 2 business days after the trade date. Buy a stock on Monday (T), and it settles Wednesday (T+2). T+1 settlement (being adopted in many markets) settles the next business day. Business day counting in finance never includes weekends or market holidays. ACH bank transfers typically take 1–3 business days. Wire transfers settle same day if sent before the cutoff, or next business day otherwise. Credit card payments post within 1–2 business days.

Carriers quote shipping time in business days from the day they pick up or process your shipment — not necessarily the order date. "Ships in 1–2 business days" means the carrier picks up within 1–2 weekdays of your order. "Delivers in 5–7 business days" means transit time once shipped. Order on Friday: processing starts Monday (1 business day), ships Tuesday (2 business days). 5 business day transit from Tuesday = the following Tuesday. Total: about 8 calendar days from order to delivery. Most major carriers don't deliver on Sundays; FedEx and UPS offer Saturday delivery as a premium option.
